Area Seniors Need You!

Their independence depends on volunteers

The Central District Health Department’s Fit & Fall Proof classes are more popular than ever, leading to full classrooms and a shortage of volunteer instructors. For example, the class at Heatherwood Retirement Center, 5277 W Kootenai Street, Boise, usually has 15 – 20 students, but it may have to close because there aren’t enough instructors to keep it going.

CDHD is actively recruiting more volunteer class leaders. The training is free, the time commitment low and the rewards priceless. Fit & Fall Proof classes help seniors prevent debilitating falls with strength and balance training. Most classes last 45 minutes and are held at locations throughout the four county area of the Central District Health Department.

The next Class Leader Workshop will be held Wednesday March 31, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The training is free and lunch will be served. For more information and to enroll in the workshop contact Program Coordinator Lindsay Byars at 327-8591.

Every 18 seconds an older American is treated in an emergency room for a fall-related injury. Become a Fit & Fall Proof volunteer instructor and keep area seniors happy, healthy and living independently.
