CDHD Receives Grant from Idaho Community Foundation
The Central District Health Department (CDHD) has received a grant of $1,230 from the Idaho Community Foundation to provide American Red Cross First Aid/CPR classes for the Somali Bantu community in Boise. The project is called “Hands Helping Hearts.”
The funds will be used to provide two First Aid/CPR classes to members of the refugee community who will in turn provide first aid to their community and teach others. Twenty people will be trained in basic First Aid/CPR during the month of February and then two participants will be selected to attend instructor training at the Red Cross to ensure a self-sustaining program for the future.
“CDHD strives to improve the health of our community through these kinds of partnerships,” said Cathy Deckys, RN, program administrator. “Hands Helping Hearts is an example of how partnerships can assist the underserved in our community today and into the future.”
CDHD would like to extend special thanks to the Idaho Community Foundation and the American Red Cross of Greater Idaho for making these life-saving classes possible.
