1600 Doses of H1N1 Vaccine Available Monday
The Central District Health Department (CDHD) will have 1600 doses of H1N1 (swine) flu vaccine available Monday November 23rd at its only Point of Dispensing (POD) location in Boise. The nasal spray version of the vaccine will not be available, as that’s being reserved for use in school-based vaccination programs. CDHD will operate the POD at the former Comp USA store, 1195 N Milwaukee St, Boise, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday hoping to vaccinate more Priority Group members.
Priority groups include:
- Pregnant women
- People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
- Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
- Persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old
- People 25 through 64 years of age with chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems
CDHD switched the POD schedule from Saturdays to Mondays hoping to pick up individuals and families unable to get to a POD on weekends. This is a good opportunity for young children to get the second dose of vaccine they need for full immunization against the flu. Children under ten years of age need two doses of the vaccine separated by at least 28 days.
CDHD has also arranged to have Santa Claus pay a visit to the flu clinic on Monday. Santa will be at the POD from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and children coming in for the vaccine will be able to visit with Santa in the waiting area after they get their flu shots.
