Mayors to Deliver Meals On Wheels

In recognition of National Mayors for Meals Day, every Ada County Mayor and the Mayor of Mountain Home will be delivering Meals On Wheels next week. The Mayors of Boise, Meridian, Garden City, Star, Kuna, Eagle and Mtn. Home will be showing their support of seniors in their communities and will join thousands of other mayors from across the country in attracting attention to the nutritional needs of seniors.

“We are excited about having these mayors participate in our event,” said Angela Spain, Senior Nutrition program manager at Central District Health. “We hope to raise awareness of the needs of the seniors we serve in Ada and Elmore County.”

Each Mayor will partner with a regular Meals On Wheels volunteer delivery driver to deliver meals in their community.

Meals On Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals to over 600 homebound seniors in Ada and Elmore counties every weekday. For many seniors the daily visit by a Meals On Wheels volunteer is the only human contact they have all day. In addition to delivering meals, the Meals On Wheels program provides these seniors with a daily check on their health and well being.

And remember, the biggest fundraiser for the Meals On Wheels program – the 11th Annual Culinary Walk-About – is coming up Thursday April 10th at the Boise Centre on the Grove. For tickets, call 327-7460 or visit us our Senior Nutrition - Culinary page.

For more information on the Meals On Wheels program, to become a volunteer driver or make a donation please call the Senior Nutrition program at Central District Health at 327-7460 or visit our website.
