Where would I find information on Fit & Fall Proof classes in our area?
Central District Health Department has worked with many area facilities catering to seniors to offer the very popular Fit & Fall Proof classes. Go to this page of our website for more information on the locations, days and times of these classes.
How do I find out about your Cardiac Risk / Cholesterol Screening services?
Cardiac Risk / Cholesterol Screenings are generally held the first Tuesday of the month at the Boise office of Central District Health. For more information on the screenings please visit our website.
Do I need to pay for the Cardiac Risk / Cholesterol Screening at time of service?
Yes. We accept checks and cash only. You are given an insurance receipt at the time of payment so you can bill your insurance provider.
What kind of other tests can I have done?
On our website you can download the form for Additional Health Screen Tests. These tests must be requested by your Health Care Provider in written form i.e.: prescription, or any document from their office that has their name and a fax number to send the results to. The lab sends the ordered tests directly to the physician's office by fax. The tests can be directly billed to your insurance or to the individual.

Services to help individuals quit using tobacco are available on the web at Idaho.quitnet.com, through telephone counseling at the Idaho Quitline, 1-800-QuitNow (1-800-784-8669) and at group classes offered by tobacco cessation counselors. All programs, which are funded by the Idaho Tobacco Millennium Funds, are free of charge. For more information please visit our website.
How do I borrow the smoker's lungs shown in the Fall 2007 Idaho Health magazine?
Sorry, but the smoker's lungs aren't available for loan to the public. They are frequently in use with Central District Health Department's participation in health fairs and worksite presentations. They are utilized in the "Teens Against Tobacco Use" trainings and presentations to area schools. The lungs are also used by our tobacco prevention partners who include Project Filter, the Smokefree 83 race car, and the Idaho Academy of Family Physician's "Tar Wars" program. The Simulated Smoker's lungs can be purchased for $325 at www.HealthEdco.com or www.healthconnection.org or www.nimcoinc.com
What cancers are most common in Idaho?
In Idaho, the leading cause of cancer death among both males and females is lung cancer. Among males and females combined, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death. Programs to address smoking, the leading cause of lung cancer, exist in every health district in Idaho. Increasing the awareness and knowledge about the prevention and screening of colorectal cancer is also addressed by all seven health districts in Idaho. For more information about cancer prevention, detection and treatment, go to www.cancer.org.
What is Fluoride Varnish?
It is a protective coating that is painted on your child's teeth to help prevent cavities. It can also help areas of early decay from getting worse. Visit our website's Upcoming Events page to find the date of the next Fluoride Varnish Clinic near you.
What is the Fluoride Varnish Clinic?
A Registered Dental Hygienist provides a visual assessment of a child's teeth, education to the parent/caregiver on good oral health practices, and an application of fluoride varnish on the child's teeth. We hold regular fluoride varnish clinics at Central District Health Department. Visit our website's Upcoming Events page to find the date of the next Fluoride Varnish Clinic near you.
Who is eligible to use the Fluoride Varnish Clinic?
We will treat children from the time their first teeth erupt, to about 5 years old. Children who are enrolled in SCHIP or Idaho Smiles receive this service at no cost to them. The parents of uninsured children will be assessed fees based on a sliding fee scale. If you have questions about eligibility you can contact the program manager at 208-327-5612 or send an e-mail.
Should a pregnant woman see her dentist?
Absolutely! Having dental treatment during pregnancy is safe and recommended. Be sure you tell your dentist you are pregnant! Some dental treatments (such as dental cleanings) may help prevent giving birth to your baby too soon, or having a baby that is too small. Even after birth, infections from dental decay or gum disease can be passed from mother to child, creating health problems.
